While the 501 and 502 model numbers were discontinued in 1958, variations of the models, with the same platform and body, were continued until 1963.
The naming designation of the BMW 502 varied between 1955 and 1963 in order to illustrate the V8 engine displacement and version: BMW 502 (1954, 2.6 V8 engine, 100 HP), BMW 2.6 Luxus, (1958, the same engine as 502), BMW 2600L (1961, the same engine, now producing 110 HP), BMW 502 3.2 or just BMW 3.2 (1955, 3.2 V8 engine, 120 HP), 502 3.2 Super (1957, 3.2 V8 engine, 140 HP), BMW 3200L (1961, 3.2 V8 one carburettor engine, 140 CP) and BMW 3200S (1961, 3.2 V8 double carburettor engine, 160 HP).
As well as the saloon version, BMW offered Baur built two-door cabriolet and coupe versions of the 502 in 1954 and 1955. The 501s and 502s were also converted into ambulances and hearses.
Even if the 502 was Germany's first post-war car with a V8 engine, its high price of 17,450DM resulted in low sales figures, with only 190 units being sold in its first year of production, and total production of the 3.2-litre V8 variant standing at 3,865.
This car has covered 8,118 km.
