Produced from 1971 through 1989 and described by many as one of the best looking car Mercedes-Benz produced up to date, the R107 SL is the second longest single series ever produced by the automaker, after the G-Class.
The launch of the 350 SL in April 1971 marked the beginning of the most never-ending story of the R107 series. The fact that this spanned 18 years and 237,387 cars was convincing evidence of the success of the design, and of the concept of a powerful and comfortable two-seater touring sports car with a convertible roadster top or a removable hardtop.
Although it is a sports car, you wouldn’t describe the SL as an out-and-out performance motor. While it has adequate pace, boasting a 0-60 mph time comfortably under the 10-second bracket, the refinement and looks were of more importance. This focus on design has paid dividends today as you can park a Merc SL of this era anywhere and it’ll fit in.
Produced from 1971 through 1989 and described by many as one of the best looking cars Mercedes-Benz produced to date, being the second longest single series ever produced by the automaker, after the G-Class. The R107 replaced the W113 SL-Class in 1972.
The SL variant was a 2-seat convertible/roadster with standard soft top and hardtop and optional folding seats for the rear bench. The SLC (C107) derivative was a 2 door hardtop coupe with normal rear seats. The SLC is commonly referred to as an 'SL coupe', but in reality it was an S-class coupe, replacing the former saloon-based W111 coupe in Mercedes lineup. The SLC was replaced earlier than the SL, in 1981, with a much larger model, the C126 based on the new S class.
The 350SL version of the R107 started the range in 1971. It was produced until 1980, when it was replaced by the more powerful 380SL.
The 350SL was sold with a 3.5 litre, 200 HP, 211 lb-ft (286 Nm) V8 engine. The maximum speed was set at 212 km/h.
The car has 32,165 km on board.
