Full description

Bentley’s introduction of the V8-powered S2 Continental continued the company’s tradition of “The Silent Sports Car,” as it was an automobile in which four adults could waft comfortably at high speeds over long distances in great comfort.

Few body styles on this sporting chassis were quite as seductive as coachbuilder H.J. Mulliner’s design number 7443, a four-door sport saloon with sculpted rear fenders and attractive lines. This car was designed by George Moseley and was the forerunner of the “four-door coupes” that are so popular among today’s luxury car buyers. “Flying Spur” was the designated name of this body version and it appeared first on the Bentley S1 Continental, the first generation of this British classic car.

Mulliner produced 128 examples of the Flying Spur on the S2 Continental chassis, of which a mere 52 were left-hand drive examples.

Chassis number BC35LCZ was originally delivered to H.J. Mulliner on 13 June, 1961 according to the Bentley certificate in the file completed on 7 November of that year. After the body was installed on the chassis, it was loaded onto the Sedonia for its voyage across the Atlantic from London to New York on 12 December. Upon arrival in the United States, the car was subsequently titled and registered as a 1962 and delivered to its first owner, Paul A. Nelson of Oak Park, Illinois.

Originally delivered in black with scarlet upholstery, it was later changed to an attractive combination of Forest Green over Biscuit hides with contrasting piping. While in the ownership of noted collector Ervin “Bud” Lyon, it was under the care of noted experts Paul Russell & Company in Boston, Massachusetts and Vantage Motors of Miami, Florida. Restoration and repair included the engine bay, interior, freshening of the wiring and mechanics and refinishing of the interior woodwork.

The car has covered 97.277 miles (approx. 156,500 km).
