The Ghia L 6.4 is an exclusive, distinctive, fast and luxurious automobile made by the Italian coachbuilding Ghia. Only 26 units were built from 1961 to 1963, and the car in the Tiriac Collection gallery has a dash plaque which states it was built for Dean Martin.
Ghia is an Italian automobile design and coachbuilding firm established in Turin (Italy) in 1916. Initially, the Italians worked with manufacturers like Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia, but at the end of Fifties, they created Dual-Ghia, a 2-door coupe and convertible made in cooperation with Dual-Motors Corporation.
It was an immediate hit and Gene Casaroll, the force behind the Dual-Ghia, allowed only the most select clientele to buy one. Every order crossed his desk and was summarily accepted or rejected based on Casaroll’s subjective criteria, one of which was geographic and social distribution. Casaroll accepted orders from Frank Sinatra, Eddie Fisher and Peter Lawford, but Sammy Davis Jr. and Dean Martin didn’t make the cut.
After just two years, the Dual-Ghia project was abandoned, but Ghia didn't give up building its own car. Ghia L 6.4 appeared in 1961 and symbolize the metric displacement of the big 335 HP Chrysler V8 engine under the hood.
The Ghia L 6.4 was an exclusive, distinctive, fast, luxurious automobile. It appealed to the same clientele and quickly replaced the older Dual-Ghias in the Sinatra garage. Only 26 units were built from 1961 to 1963, and the car in the Tiriac Collection gallery has a dash plaque which states it was built for Dean Martin.
This car has travelled 47,293 miles (approx. 76.110 km).
