Full description

The first Model T rolled off the assembly line on 27 September 1908, on 26 May 1927, Henry Ford, watched the 15 millionth and last T to be produced, come off the assembly line. It is generally regarded as the first affordable automobile, the car that opened travel to the common middle class American; some of this was because of Ford's efficient fabrication, including assembly line production instead of individual hand crafting. The Ford Model T was named the world's most influential car of the 20th century in an international poll.

The T was Ford's only offering in 1909. It was available in five body styles: Touring, Runabout (roadster), Coupe, Town Car and Landaulet.

In 1913 the production lines were motorised, cutting assembly time from 12.5 hours to just 1 hour, 33 minutes. In January 1914, Ford introduced the $5 per day wage to workers helping the company to produce 300,000 Model Ts; 100,000 more cars than the rest of the industry combined. With these moving lines, the Model T was produced in such quantities that in 1915, a Touring cost half the price it had been when first introduced in 1908. Automotive aficionados know that a Model T was available in any color so long as it was black. However, all-black did not come until 1914 when in the interest of production line speed, Henry Ford chose one color. Why black? Ford determined that black paint dried the fastest, which helped lower production time.

Powered by a 2,900cc, 20hp engine, the T was good for almost 72 Km/h. Taking into consideration the roads back then and the fact that the T only had brakes acting on the rear wheels, top speed was good. Transmission to the rear wheels was made through a “3 speed” planetary gearbox. The “third” gear was actually a reverse.

A 1920 Ford Model T Tourer was used in the Hog Wild movie (1930), starring Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.

This particular 1920 model is equipped with an electric starter and electric lights.
