Full description

Ransom E. Olds founded the Olds Motor Vehicle Company in Lansing, Michigan, in 1897, selling it to Sam Smith who relocated the company to Detroit. As vice president, Olds developed steam, electric and gas-powered vehicles, and so far, Olds is the only company to have developed, built and sold all three modes.

Ransom left the Olds Motor Vehicle Company and founded the REO Motor Company in 1904, naming the new company after his initials. By 1907, REO was one of the wealthiest automobile manufacturers in the world, but the success was short lived as Ford and General Motors began gaining ground with less expensive, more readily available cars and trucks.

Olds was dedicated to durability and speed, something of an inherent thread with the REO Company. In spite of heavy competition and turbulent sales, REO had a followers base and it’s been widely agreed that their styling was more elegant than many others of the era.

The Flying Cloud was introduced in 1927, boasting a whimsical name eliciting speed and lightness, sparking the imaginations of many. Boasting a 27-horsepower, 4,392 cc, inline-6 cylinder engine, the Roadster sold for roughly $1,700 new, and remained on sale until 1936.

This example is remarkable in many ways, and has been lovingly maintained over the years. Sprayed with a snappy Red over Oxblood interior, the REO exudes a flashiness rarely seen during the era.

This car has covered 59,878 miles (approx. 96,400 km).
